Curator’s notes

This self-contained home movie sequence shows a classic example of an Australian milk bar from the early 1940s. Usually also a local corner store where you could buy common grocery items like milk and bread, milk bars enabled young people to socialise and purchase non-alcoholic drinks (such as milkshakes). Frederick Simpson Dyer often captured semi-staged footage of family members to edit into sequences such as this one.
