Clip description

In the aftermath of the bushfires, the charcoal remains of fallen trees and bare ground reveal the extent of the devastation at Farrer Ridge.

Curator’s notes

Dimpel’s reflections on the aftermath of the bushfires in this clip add poignancy to the footage that he has captured. The eucalypt tree that once acted as a shelter on his family bushwalks is now ‘sparse shadow’. However, Dimpel remains positive, observing that the tree’s ‘strong roots still keep fast to the rocky ground’. His focus on the strength, endurance and resilience of the tree is an affecting analogy for both nature and memory in the face of adversity.
