Curator’s notes

These scenes blur the boundaries between the film’s different styles, raising questions around whose perspective(s) we are a party to. Although the letter opens ‘Dear Avery’, it is hard to tell as the sequence moves on whether it is the real Christopher or the fictional Avery we are watching. The doubling up of voice-overs extends this effect further.

Catherine is an interesting character. For the most part, she is present only in ‘writing’ in the film. Does she exist ? Or are she and her letters detailing erotic encounters a fantasy? And if so, whose fantasy exactly?
