Clip description
A group of men smoke cannabis and talk about their totem animals. Ten-year-old Daniel (Daniel Connors) sits watching and listening to the men talking, and asks Linden (Christoper Edwards) about one of the paintings on the wall. When Daniel responds to one of the men’s question about his virginity, the others all laugh.
Curator’s notes
This scene shows the men talking about their cultural heritage and displaying a lack of knowledge. It shows the exposure of a young person to the harsh reality of community life and suggests that sexual abuse of children in the community is rife.
