Clip description

At a seaside fun fair, Tom White (Colin Friels) shows his prowess with a slug gun, and his sense of humour. The shooting gallery girl Christine (Loene Carmen) gives him the prize he wanted, a set of crayons. Her attempts at conversation are rudely rebuffed.

Curator’s notes

Tom’s drawings feature throughout the film, and they relate to the notion of identity. He knows he wants the crayons as soon as he walks up to the shooting gallery – the first thing he draws is the face of his wife, who’s sitting at home in the suburbs wondering why he has disappeared without a trace. For much of the film, Tom is trying to obliterate his sense of self, and his memory, but that is harder than he expects.
