clip Paul meets ‘the set’

This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Influential socialite Marie Rosefield (Brenda Senders) introduces her young protégé, Paul Lawrence (Sean McEuan), to Sydney high society types. Artist Mark Bronoski (Denis Doonan), a key member of ‘the set’, offers Paul a job.

Curator’s notes

Networking in Australia, 1969-style. Paul gets his entrée to ‘the set’ through Marie, an experienced scenester who knows how to play the game. The accent of British actor Sean McEuan sounds odd today but was not out of place in Australia in the period. It was common for Australians who wanted to distinguish themselves to speak with an English clip. Marie’s voice is a good example of this.
