Placid Lake (Ben Lee) takes the path of least resistance and tries to please everyone after his father Doug (Garry McDonald) attempts to de-program him. He adopts the appearance of a political activist for the sake of his parents, then changes into a suit to rejoin the fast-track program at Icarus Insurance.
Curator’s notes
The American woman dressed in black at the workshop at the very end of this sequence is Claire Danes. She was the female lead in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996) so is no stranger to working with Australian directors but it seems very odd that she would make a cameo appearance in this film. The explanation is simple: at the time she was dating Lee.
