The Rage in Placid Lake (2003)

play
clip Placid works in insurance

Original classification rating: M. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Placid (Ben Lee) thinks it would do him good to work in a structured environment with a lot of normal people, he tells insurance executive Joel (Christopher Stollery). Joel shows him around the office and tells him that the insurance business is about helping people when the modern world turns on them.

Curator’s notes

Joel paints an admirable picture of insurance but, as the story unfolds, reveals that he is personally and physically ravaged by the lifestyle. Thus he becomes the mouthpiece for the film’s anti-corporate sentiment. Writer-director Tony McNamara was able to draw on his own experience of working within an insurance company in writing and directing these scenes.
