The Sundowner/Ted Simpson (Chips Rafferty) saves McLeod (Max Osbiston) from being shot by Stapleton (Guy Doleman). Stapleton threatens Simpson and McLeod. Kim (Jeanette Elphick) tells McLeod that Ted is ‘the Sundowner’.
Curator’s notes
The Phantom Stockman closely resembles a classic American western. Stapleton is the corrupt cattle baron attempting to destroy Kim’s business and take her land. Ted Simpson is the resourceful drifter whose arrival exposes Stapleton and gives Kim hope. McLeod’s initial mistrust of Ted is overturned when Kim reveals he is the supposedly mythical Sundowner.
