Curator’s notes
Religious and cultural differences prove too much for Sarah. She was willing to marry Ayhan but is not prepared to change her religion for him. Although he has adapted happily and quite successfully to life in Australia, Ayhan is ‘still a Turk’ when it comes to marriage. The empty, drab location at the end of this scene illustrates the distance between Ayhan and Sarah and the lack of hope for their relationship.
