Clip description

Tommy‘s (Jason McGoldrick) third job interview, this time as a cleaner. He’s much less naive about the widespread prejudice against Cabramatta than he was in his first two interviews, being more confident and quicker to question the interviewer (Luke Peters) when asked leading or insinuating questions (such as whether he has any 'habits’, implying drugs). When the interviewer openly asks him about drugs he loses his patience, becomes abusive and walks out.

Curator’s notes

In the narrative this scene represents the last straw for Tommy, the event that triggers his turn back towards heroin. He has been trying to go straight and turn his life around but keeps finding himself up against prejudice. His lack of any qualifications or a job record doesn’t help either.

The performances are so natural you forget you’re watching fiction. Jason McGoldrick plays Tommy as if he’s been through difficult job interviews many times himself.
