Clip description

Medical student Paul Armstrong (Simon Burke) discovers Dr Eric Linden (Chris Haywood) is gay. A religious zealot (Mark Minchinton) creates a disturbance in Dr Linden’s office.

Curator’s notes

The Clinic confronts prejudice and narrow-minded attitudes toward sex and sexual orientation. Paul is shocked to discover Dr Linden is gay and accuses him of working at the clinic to satisfy his desires. Dr Linden’s easygoing nature turns to anger following Paul’s remarks and boils over when a religious protester enters his office.

The Clinic was released in 1983, when the full extent of the AIDS epidemic was becoming clear and homophobia was on the increase.
