The Clinic (1982)

play Sexual references
clip ‘I feel like such a fool’

Original classification rating: M. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Nancy (Veronica Lang) tells Dr Carol Young (Rona McLeod) about her sex life and how she contracted gonorrhoea.

Curator’s notes

The Clinic mixes comedy with poignant drama. Nancy’s cheerful outlook at the beginning of her consultation with Dr Young later gives way to a sombre reflection on how she has put up with a lover who openly sees other women and has given her a sexual disease.

Nancy’s story strikes a chord with Dr Young, who is pregnant to a man who does not wish to be a father. With people from all walks of life passing through the clinic’s busy waiting room the film’s message is that sexual disease is a universal concern.
