Clip description

Tory (Sibylla Budd) tells Will (Matthew Newton) to leave, after he refuses to call off the bet. On the trading floor soon after, Brex shares begin to tumble. Will and the rest of the traders lose a fortune in a matter of seconds.

Curator’s notes

Will’s fall from grace is spectacularly fast, both in his personal and his work life. Part of the reason he throws away his relationship with Tory so easily is that he suspects she’s having an affair with his rival, Angus. The script is certainly clear that Angus would like to supplant Will in Tory’s affections. The bet for Angus is a form of sexual warfare. Whether it always was that is not quite clear, since they make the bet before Will and Tory have had a first date – but it certainly becomes the motive once their relationship starts. Each of the men involved has a secret agenda that bewilders the women around them.
