Clip description

Guy (Richard Roxburgh) is trying to find out who owns the cat in his arms. Although he is a stranger, Lizzie (Cate Blanchett) invites him in off the street because she sees he is distressed and the cat is actually having kittens. She says she’s a doctor and makes the cat comfortable. They realise that they both think it is the other person’s cat.

Curator’s notes

Thank God He Met Lizzie is one of a trio of Australian films, made in quick succession, that highlight Blanchett’s glamour and acting talent and which led her, a few short years later, to being one of the most admired actors in the world. She arrived on set having just worked on Paradise Road (1997) with director Bruce Beresford, and left to take a title role on Oscar and Lucinda (1997) with Gillian Armstrong.
