Clip description
Monty Ralston (Frank Leighton) and his manservant Thompson (Leo Franklin) narrowly escape a police raid on a two-up game but Jim McBride (Frank Bradley) is caught. Ralston and Thompson blunder onto the stage of a nearby theatre, where they entertain Mrs McBride (Peggy Ross) and daughter Eileen (Isabelle Mahon), as the police pursue.
Curator’s notes
A nice bit of music hall whimsy, as the two Englishmen dance, pursued by the cops. Beaumont Smith made good use of music and location in this film, with some striking shots of the city by night. Much of the film feels a bit like a staged play, but this scene adapts a typical piece of stage farce for good comic effect.
