Dazey (Ben Mendelsohn) helps Joe (Aden Young) find the courage to ask Savina (Tara Morice) on a date.
Curator’s notes
In this clip Dazey is playing a Cyrano de Bergerac-like role to help Joe in his attempt to romance Savina. Repeating Joe’s words to Savina, Joe is able to overcome his shyness and feelings of inferiority. The backwards-forwards editing of the sequence emphasises how much Joe has come to rely on Dazey. The sweeping camera shot at the opening of the drag race scene suggests an exciting tribal ritual is about to take place.
