Manganinnie (Mawuyul Yanthalawuy) searches for her tribe. Joanna (Anna Ralph) drops the fire stick in the ocean.

Curator’s notes

Manganinnie was filmed in some of the most beautiful locations in Tasmania. In this sequence, narrated by the grown-up voice of Joanna (Elaine Mangan), she remembers Manganinnie’s hopes of finding her people at a tribal meeting place. Losing the fire stick is a major dramatic point: Manganinnie is highly skilled at using fire but does not know how to create it.
