The frequently barbaric treatment of Aborigines in colonial Australia is shown here. The troopers are faceless and shown at a distance, with the faces of Manganinnie and her tribe in much closer view. The elements of a survival film are introduced as Manganinnie is revealed as the only person to have evaded the troopers.
