Having been unable to secure city employment, Il Contratto’s four recently arrived migrants (Giuseppe Michelini, Luigi Borsi, Giuseppe Cusato, Giorgio Mangiamele) find work on a farm outside Melbourne. Previous uncertainties about their life in Australia dissolve as they share the tasks of mixed farming.
Curator’s notes
By this point in the story, the four men have been joined by a fellow migrant, Claudia, soon to become the girlfriend of one of their number, Enzo, played by Giorgio Mangiamele. The farm scenes were filmed at Werribee, 32 km south-west of Melbourne’s CBD.
