Curator’s notes

The scene says much about the troubled marriage of Nick and Sandra Rast. Nick does not want to be in the same room as terminally ill son Alex and tearful wife Sandra, and seems annoyed when Sandra calls out for help. The distance between Nick and Sandra provides the symbolic space for Gregory Wolfe to enter their home. Though frightened by Wolfe’s sudden appearance, his promise to cure Alex overrides all other concerns. The apparent miracle he performs paves the way for Wolfe to become an influential member of the Rast household.
