Clip description

Sandra Rast (Carmen Duncan) threatens to leave husband Nick (David Hemmings) unless Gregory Wolfe (Robert Powell) is freed from jail. Nick visits his backer, Doc Wheelan (Broderick Crawford), and is shown a damning file on Wolfe compiled by security chief, Porter (Alan Cassell).

Curator’s notes

Harlequin places Nick Rast in a spiralling dilemma. He invited Wolfe into his house after the stranger apparently saved his son’s life but now regards Wolfe as a liability. Although his marriage to Sandra is loveless, not meeting her demand that Wolfe be released from jail and returned to the home would mean losing her and, in the process, damaging his prospects of becoming Deputy Governor. His hand forced, Nick approaches powerbroker Wheelan to secure Wolfe’s release, only to be presented with a file casting Wolfe as a serial fraudster. Note the American dubbing of security chief Porter. The role is played by Australian actor Alan Cassell, but it was probably felt at the time that the part would have more weight if the voice was American.
