Curator’s notes
In this, one of the best comic sequences in the film, the king and his men are portrayed as bumbling, superstitious fools who mistake the young monster Grendel for a tree spirit. Stitt’s simplified 2D animation can be seen in the abstract shapes representing trees and the black silhouettes of the fleeing figures.
