Clip description

While celebrating with friends at a bar, Leonie Stevens (Linda Blair) meets Joe Martinez (Jerome Ehlers). When Joe starts a fight, Leonie intervenes and leaves the bar with Joe.

Curator’s notes

Leonie’s good nature and Joe’s dangerous qualities are established at their first meeting. Leonie is out with the girls when she notices Joe, the classic ‘tall, dark and handsome’ stranger. She can’t help herself when Joe gets in trouble. Their eyes have met and the chemical reaction makes her want to help him. The song in this sequence is the aptly titled ‘A Hard Act to Follow’, by veteran Australian singer Kevin Johnson, who appears as himself.
