clip 'It’s the rainbow!'

Original classification rating: G. This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

Tutu (voiced by Emily Hunt) sees a rainbow in the sky, tries to follow it and finds a trail of edible ‘rainbow drops’ left behind. While the two brothers search for each other, their new friends Chump the chimp (voiced by Patrick Floersheim) and Stretch the giraffe (voiced by Annie Lindner) struggle to keep up.

Curator’s notes

The film’s mix of fantasy and reality is demonstrated here as Tutu continues to search for his mother at the end of the rainbow by following a path of edible 'rainbow drops’ apparently left behind by a disappearing rainbow in the sky. With shades of mystery and Hansel and Gretel-like ambiguity, this unexpected detail opens up the possibility of magic and wish fulfilment beyond the real-world setting.

This sequence introduces the other characters making up the band of orphans who, together with the brothers, gradually form a new family. There’s a young but world-weary giraffe called Stretch and comic relief in the form of self-proclaimed ‘king of the jungle’ Chump the chimp.
