Pearl (Lynette Curran) confronts Alexandra (Agnieszka Perepeczko). Pearl accuses Alexandra’s star boxer, Manny (Tibor Gyapjas), of beating up her brother Bobby (Paul Goddard). As the argument intensifies, Manny arrives.
Curator’s notes
Pearl is using Manny’s alleged assault on Bobby as part of a campaign to force Alexandra out of the neighbourhood. The female enemies could not be more different in looks or outlook. Alexandra’s masculine appearance and dress sets her dramatically apart from Pearl, whose ‘power suit’ look was popular among businesswomen in the 1980s and ‘90s. Almost surreal in its surprise, Manny’s hip-hopping entrance signals that Dead to the World is an offbeat take on the traditional boxing movie.
