Clip description
Nabil (Buddy Dannoun) and Tarek (Les Chantery) have successfully stolen drugs from the gym junkie’s flat where Nabil was cleaner. Now Nabil asks Tarek’s cousin, a low-level drug dealer named Sam (Waddah Sari), to help them get rid of the drugs. A flash forward shows us the boys becoming serious drug dealers while Nabil (in the present tense) lays out the measures they need to take to elude detection and capture by the police. We also see in flash forward the gym junkie from the flat being arrested, Nabil having deliberately left behind pills during the robbery and rung the police.
Curator’s notes
Most of this clip is taken up by a montage of short scenes that compress a large amount of action and story time into a brief space. Note the way that music has taken the place of dialogue. In dramatic terms the sequence shows the boys entering the dangerous territory of serious drug dealing, a role for which they lack both experience and the requisite toughness. The shots of the flat owner being arrested show how high the stakes have been raised. Not only must they elude the police, they will also be in almost unimaginably serious trouble should the robbery victim and his colleagues find out their identities.
