play Sexual references
clip 'If there’s anything I can do…'

Original classification rating: MA. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

This scene introduces Lisa (Marta Dusseldorp) during a sexual encounter with Tom (Matthew Goode) in her new kitchen. The next scene shows how they met by chance in a restaurant a little earlier.

Curator’s notes

Lisa is one of several women with whom Tom has a casual sexual relationship in the film. At first viewers aren’t told how the two of them know one another.

However the next scene, set in a restaurant, is a flashback that explains not only how they know each other but also how they began their sexual relationship, not to mention how she unwittingly first introduced him to another of his sexual partners, psychiatrist Miriam (Rachel Griffiths).

This is typical of the way the film puts together its exposition – initially withholding information before using different time frames to enable the viewer to piece the story together coherently.
