Arriving at his Bondi Beach restaurant, Tom (Matthew Goode) is told by his manager (Kerry Fox) to ring Sarah (Bojana Novakovic), his wife. He rushes home to find she has some news.
Curator’s notes
Although this scene is nearly half an hour into the film, it represents the moment where viewers finally get to see Tom’s wife, Sarah.
From this point in the film we start to get a clearer idea of what had been happening in his life to push him towards his crisis. By implication this is a memory for Tom, and a crucial one: the moment where he first learns some life-changing news.
Notice the way the expression on Sarah’s face very slowly changes from happy to sad (with Tom’s face acting almost as a mirror).
