Clip description
Diane (Linda Cropper) wakes Jared (Laurence Breuls) to tell him a girl has been found dead on the beach. The media flood into town and the two key police officers on the case (Chris Haywood, Essie Davis) start to amass evidence. On discovering the victim’s name, Diane races over to see Tracy’s parents (David Field, Jeanette Cronin). They are being hounded by the media until Diane turns the hose on them.
Curator’s notes
This film is all about loyalty and where loyalty lies. Jared’s loyalty to his mates gets in the way of being honest and open with his mother. Diane doesn’t hesitate to defend her grieving friends from the intrusive media. Later in the film, tensions develop between the male and female teenagers. Everywhere in town, as pressure builds, people turn inward to their own tribes.
