Curator’s notes

The nimble screenplay of Around the World in 80 Ways finds inventive and amusing ways to maintain the elaborate hoodwink played by Wally and Eddie. Cutting from the real European holiday of Mavis and Alec to the fake Rome in Sydney heightens the farce and creates subtle tension around how long the brothers and Ophelia can sustain the act. While generating laughs from Wally’s improvised snowstorm, this scene also creates sympathy for Mavis. Alec joined the world tour without telling her and wants her to leave Roly, but Mavis misses her boys and her husband.
