clip The voice of Amy

Original classification rating: M. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Amy (Alana De Roma) rocks in her silent world after her mother Tanya has gone out. As the child welfare officers arrive, Amy hides in the front yard of the musician Robert (Ben Mendelsohn), who tells the welfare officer (Malcolm Kennard) to get lost. Robert sees the child hiding in the corner and resumes his guitar playing. He is amazed when he hears her singing quietly.

Curator’s notes

This clip gives a good indication of the extraordinary performance of Alana De Roma as Amy. The series of reaction shots in the front yard, as she listens to the music, suggest a great deal about her character – pain, curiosity, grief, and then the shock of hearing her voice for the first time.
