Original classification rating: M. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

George Plimpton sits with Vali Myers to speak about her life in Paris in the late 1940s and early ‘50s, her wild days and downward spiral and what saved her. This clip contains photographs of Vali in the 1950s and her paintings at the time, which appeared in the Paris Review.

Curator’s notes

Plimpton was editor of the Paris Review and is able to give a real sense of Vali in the early days when she lived in Paris. Vali lived a wild life there and he never expected her to survive. The historical photos of Vali are very telling. The black-and-white drawings she did at the time are very intricate.
