Demand for rental subsidies

This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

Men and women sign a petition for a 'Fair Rents Court’. This is followed by a sequence of news headlines about the petition. A letter drop is sent to rent payers urging them to demand a rent subsidy. More news headlines are interspersed with shots of petitions being signed, rallies taking place, the printing of leaflets and people reading notices. The second sequence of newspaper clippings announce 'Rents forced down’ and 'Tenants get rent reduced’. The clip ends with a handwritten card pleading for the problem to be solved by 'an adequate housing scheme’.

Curator’s notes

Most of the news headlines used in this clip come from The Daily News where Paul Moline worked as a subeditor. It is Moline’s hand which writes the final plea for an adequate housing scheme.
