The supermarkets, because of easier handling, encouraged packaging dairy products in cartons and plastic bottles. Formerly, glass bottles were recycled 25 times. The new packaging is single use. Writer John Flaus regrets the disappearance of glass milk bottles and writer Barry Dickins looks at the recyclable items at the rubbish tip.
