Clip description

Rachel has had a seizure. The medical staff must do a scan of her brain quickly to see from where in the brain the fits are originating, so they know where to operate.

Curator’s notes

This scene is observational filmmaking at its best. The camera follows as the hospital staff try to get an emotional and uncooperative Rachel scanned in time to capture the information from her brain. This is the reason they have been monitoring her and they have been waiting for this to happen. Rachel however responds badly to the drugs and becomes frightened that she will be abandoned and kicked out on the street once the medical team have their result.

What we see dramatically is the hospital staff trying to deal with a non-medical drama in order to get a medical result. The sequence exposes the vulnerability of the patient in such a scenario.
