Filmmaker Janet Merewether is sick of researching sperm donors and weighing up the different options for getting pregnant. To get away from it all, she goes out to a concert and ends up with a bloke in bed. Sounds of orgasm and her voice-over tell of her positive pregnancy test – she is overjoyed at the result.
Curator’s notes
Merewether researches the possibilities for getting pregnant methodically (like she researches her films) and soul searches on camera. Is getting a donor through an agency the right way to go? She applies and finally gets the folder of possible sperm donors but she’s not sure. She relies on her friends for advice. After starting off making a choice to get pregnant, she ends up doing so by chance. The stylised scenes of her getting dressed and then dancing at the concert cleverly build up a tension that culminates in the ‘orgasm’ and sex that leads to her pregnancy.
