Clip description
Khouri admits that she was never going to reveal the real identity of ‘Dalia’. Dr Charles V Ford, a lying disorder specialist, explains that it is not enough for the con artist to get away with something – they need to rub the face of their victim in it as well. The true con artist delights in the victim knowing that they’ve been conned. On low quality videotape, Khouri talks to the so-called ‘bodyguard’ about deceiving the filmmaker. An ‘inquisition’ ensues where the filmmaker takes Khouri to task over various issues including ‘trust’ and ‘the first lie’.
Curator’s notes
Towards the end of filming, Broinowski reports that she has hundreds of hours of footage of Khouri’s detractors portraying her as a scheming and manipulative sociopath who is only in it for the money. She didn’t feel she had any footage showing Khouri being that type of person until she received the ‘secret’ mini-DV tape in the mail with a note attached, ‘For Anna, not for the film’. Upon viewing it, the filmmaker was gobsmacked. Here was Khouri ‘rubbing Broinowski’s nose in it’.
On the tape, Khouri was drunk and gloating to her ‘bodyguard’ how she’d ripped Broinowski off and conned her big time. Broinowski rang Khouri saying that what was on the tape was wonderful and asked if she could use it in the film. Khouri said ‘yes, but leave out the stuff where we talk about how horrible you are’. Broinowski used some of the ‘secret’ tape footage to great effect in Forbidden Lie$. The Forbidden Lie$ DVD release includes two extra minutes of footage in which Khouri and the bodyguard rip Broinowski to shreds.
