Dominick Dunne recalls his meetings with soon-to-be famous actors while working at NBC Television in the 1950s.
Curator’s notes
Dominick Dunne is at his most exuberant recalling his job as a stage manager in live television in the ‘50s. With unashamed candour he remembers how telling Humphrey Bogart ‘I love to look at movie stars’ led to his attendance at a party with life-changing consequences. In the days before videotape, much of TV was performed live and featured not-yet famous performers such as Steve McQueen and Grace Kelly. Dunne’s friendships with many of these actors started his obsession with celebrity and glamour.
