Clip description

Dominick Dunne visits the media stakeout at Paris Hilton’s house. Hollywood producer Robert Evans describes Dunne as ‘the master of the written word.’ Dunne discusses his interest in celebrity crime trials.

Curator’s notes

This sequence shows Dunne as a celebrity in his own right. He is instantly recognised by media and celebrity-obsessed fans camped at Paris Hilton’s house. Robert Evans, whose spectacular rise and fall and re-emergence draws comparison with Dunne’s career, refers to Dunne as ‘an above the line star’ – a reference to fees paid to producers, directors, actors and other key personnel before shooting commences on a feature film. A long-time advocate for victim’s rights, Dunne is disdainful of ‘expert witnesses’ he believes can be ‘bought’ by the legal teams of wealthy clients.
