Clip description
The Nobby’s Nuts 'pub posters’ advertisement can be viewed here in its entirety. The characters in three vintage pub posters start to interact when the football from one poster lands on the table in the nightclub poster. The initial tension when the footballer enters the nightclub poster dissolves when they decide to open ‘Nobby’s Nuts’ and make a party of it. Later, the fishing hook from another poster lands in the nightclub poster’s ice bucket.
Curator’s notes
With Australian vintage pub posters as inspiration, this ad magically conjures up an atmosphere of past elegance, conviviality and charm with the Australian love of sport and larrikin humour.
The opening is the only live action shot in the ad. The action within the pub posters was originally filmed as live action, with the frames rendered and painted by hand, then shot frame-by-frame in 35mm. This technique gives the ad its unique vintage and hand-painted look. This painstaking process, the artistry involved and – not least – the perfect timing of its gags, make this ad uniquely appealing.
