Clip description

This silent black-and-white clip from an Imperial Tractors cinema advertisement opens with an intertitle that tells us what we are about to see. A line of Imperial Tractors motor in single file to the railway line where they are then lifted onto a railway carriage by crane.

An intertitle then claims that Imperial Tractors are probably the most popular used in the State due to their ‘low running costs, low repair bills and extreme simplicity in operation’.

Curator’s notes

This clip uses a combination of intertitles and documentary style footage to illustrate the process of transporting these tractors to regional areas.

Intertitles are also used to detail the features of the Imperial Tractors. These details would probably be conveyed using voice-over and computer generated graphic effects in contemporary advertisements.
