A woman’s voice-over accompanies a figure seen from the waist down wearing a Berlei ‘Sarong Body Magic’ girdle. Two versions of the girdle – a pant and panty girdle – are shown on the figures. As the girdle adjusts to fit the figure that wears it, the voice-over says it ‘controls and smooths you everywhere’.
Curator’s notes
The deliberate choice of either a male or female voice-over is one of the devices used by advertisements to further target their audience. Here, a calm woman’s voice speaks directly to the female audience and helps create an identification which aims to successfully market the Berlei product.
