Clip description

This is a 30-second Australia Post animated television commercial (TVC) promoting the correct addressing of mail. It shows a post box rejecting incorrectly addressed mail, finishing with the slogan: ‘If you get it right here, we’ll get it right there.’

Curator’s notes

By the late 1980s Australia Post had invested substantially in electronic and mechanised mail sorting systems. The effectiveness of these systems relied heavily on the cooperation of the customer. That is to say, postal items must be addressed correctly for mail-sorting equipment to function properly. This TVC detailed in specific terms the correct method of addressing an envelope. New requirements like no punctuation flew in the face of generations of letter writing convention, and many a member of the older generation had to unlearn style rules that had been drummed into them at school. It was produced for Australia Post by THEM and Zap Productions, and on-lined on 20 October 1988 at VTC (now part of the Omnilab Media Group).
