The jumper

This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

The squad is too busy to take on any more work and their boss (John Clayton) is trying to deflect any further commitments for his overworked team. Suddenly there’s a call – someone is threatening to jump from a tall building and no matter how overworked, an experienced crew must race to the scene.

Curator’s notes

The theme behind this moving story is that no matter how blessed we are with money, power and good looks, all of us need friends in whom we can confide. Bob (Philip Quast) is a man who had it all, but now that he’s in trouble financially he has no one to turn to. He has contacts but no friends. His ex-wife and children have grown away from him and he envies the simpler but more honest life of Micky who risks his life in the police rescue squad but has his mates to drink with at the end of a hard day.

The director is Michael Carson (1947-2005) one of the great drama producer-directors to come out of the halcyon days of the 1980s ABC. He’s best known for Scales of Justice which he conceived, directed and produced at the ABC before going freelance to direct Phoenix and Janus, amongst many others.
