clip He's not going to a snob's school education content clip 3

Original classification rating: G. This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

Brother Kennedy (Joss McWilliam) and Headmaster (Rhys McConnochie) try to convince Gary’s father (Harold Hopkins) to send his gifted son to a special school but he won’t have it. He tells Gary (Emil Minty) that what he needs is a trade.

Curator’s notes

This interesting scene shows that what Gary wants and needs is very different to what Gary’s father values. Despite his inability to see what the Brothers are saying about his son’s potential, Gary’s Dad is not presented as a bad person. He is genuinely convinced that he is doing the best thing for his son by not wanting him to be ‘special’. Dad wants everything to stay the same and that means that Gary has to fit in with his plans, not the other way round.
