The western lakes of Tasmania are being opened up to expert trout fishermen. They have travelled over bush tracks in a 4-wheel drive to find the perfect fishing spot where plump trout called 'the fighting highlanders’ are caught.

This well-produced sequence very effectively creates a sense of the difficult and exciting nature of the trip, the remoteness of the location and, ultimately, the wild beauty of an area which would have been seen by very few people up to this time. The decision to tie it to a real fishing trip is effective in personalising it for the audience.
This magazine item was filmed in Tasmania before it became the ecologists’ battleground. This magnificent corner of Australia was opened up to viewers by Weekend Magazine. They were offered the opportunity to dream that one day they too might travel around the wilds of Australia to fish and hike in places well off the beaten track.
