'I believe in a committee of one'

Original classification rating: PG. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Bruce Perkins is an unusual man. He’s an engineer by training. He believes in a great future for the north but as he sees it, not if there’s constant interference from Canberra.

Curator’s notes

We are being shown a striking picture of a modern business pioneer, an individual on the boundary of civilisation, fighting the elements and bureaucrats at the same time. However it’s hard to understand the character of a man like Bruce Perkins simply from an interview. He’s the sort of man whom we’d understand so much better if we could see him in action, getting things done. And I’m sure most people have no idea of the size of the north so would appreciate good maps of the areas covered by Perkin’s navy.
