Clip description
A group of mothers talk about how they deal with the ubiquitous television set in the centre of the living room, led by the journalist and mother of two, Rebecca le Tourneau. They swap ideas on how to pick and choose television programs and how to turn the set off.
Curator’s notes
This roundtable discussion between a group of articulate and funny women is not really representative of parents across the spectrum of society in Australia today, although the program is very entertaining and many parenting issues are universal. Radio broadcaster Jaslyn Hall explains how she tries to train her family to turn off the television after a favourite program, rather than taking on that role herself.
Little did this group know that the era of computers and gaming was just around the corner, against which the tyranny of the television set would pale into insignificance.
