Tom Chandon (Rob Carlton) and his cinematographer Nick (Darren Gilshenan) visit Helen (Penne Hackforth-Jones) at home to interview her and her daughter Maggie (Kate Mulvaney) for her dog tribute video.
Curator’s notes
This scene takes a dig at the intrusive side of documentary making. It is another example of the series’s running character-based jokes, drawing out Tom’s insensitivity towards his subjects, lack of self-awareness and inability to read situations.
Kate Mulvaney gives an impressively intense guest performance as Maggie, allowing the scene a serious set-up which it then pays off comically. It also allows a glimpse into Tom Chandon’s backstory, something that is built up through passing references such as these throughout the series.
